Part 1: How to Choose a Profitable Niche.
Part 2: How to Build an Engaging Audience
Part 3: How to Monetize Your Audience
Part 4: Tools and Resources I am using (Bonus)
Let’s get started.
Part 1: How to Choose a Profitable Niche
Most online businesses fail because the owners don’t know what they want to do. If you follow random thoughts, look to random people for ideas, or try to sell random things, you won’t have a successful business.
Â
To be a successful entrepreneur, you need to have a goal. You need to know where you want to go, and what you want to achieve. This is why you should know what your goals are and what you want to do before you begin.
In this part, I am going to show how you can choose a profitable niche.
Let’s break down the process.
Step 1:
I want you to write down the skills you have, and before that, remove everything in your mind towards your goal (if you have one now). You will generate a list like this.
For me it is:
- Web design
- Graphics design (photoshop works/Canva)
- Writing blogs
- Writing tweets
- Creating a digital product
- Editing videos
Once you generate a list like this, now I want you to generate a list of what you have done in the last 2 years.
For me it is:
- Published an eBook
- Created a Course
- Create websites
- Email Marketing (my Products)
- 1:1 Coaching
- Publish blog posts
For Example:
These two exercises are to know the skills you have right now. So that you will understand what your interest is. Now look at the two lists, and try to find the broader space of you, where have you worked, and what your skills are.
Â
It will help you to find your broader niche. But I don’t want to stop there, the broader niche has lots of noise. I want to niche down to a small audience and make a sub-niche.Â
Â
For example:
Your audience can be graphics design
Niche down to Logo Design
Sub-niche can be, Flat logo design.
This is one way to find your target audience.
The next method is by using a product you have already built.
This is very common to many people, because you may have a product already built right now.
For Example:
Your Product can be an eBook to teach coding.
Niche down to, lean to code using python.
Your sub-niche can be, learning python to build a web application.
Or if you are providing a service right now you can do this
Your service can be, a swimming coach
Niche down to, Butterfly stokes swimming coach
Your sub-niche can be Butterfly stoke swimming coach for boys under 19.
Hope you got the idea.
Why are we doing this?
It is to find your target audience, once you know who you are targeting, you can easily find:
- Where are they spending most of their time
- What are they searching for
- What are the podcasts or blogs they read
- Who are they following
- And you will know your competitor
Once you find your sub-niche, your next step should be to learn how you can build an audience.
In the next part, I will show you that.
Part 2: How to Build an Engaging Audience
In this part, my main focus is to educate you to build an engaging audience on Twitter.
(This guide is solely focused on building an audience on Twitter because that is what I have done).
Since Our Ultimate goal is to build your personal brand and make money,
So, First:
You have to have an audience
You have to become a trustworthy person among your followers.
So, first is first.
I will show you how you can make a better Twitter Profile.
Then later, next part I will show you how you can monetize your Twitter account to make money.
1. Optimize Your Profile Picture
Before you start building an audience, you should make sure you look good. Just like when you meet people in real life, you want to look professional, and friendly when you meet people online. That is the main reason your first step is to optimize your Twitter profile.
Pay Close Attention to this, when you are creating your Twitter Profile:
- Â Choose a high-quality profile photograph
- Â Include your website link (if you have one)
- Â Word carefully your bio (160 character maximum)
- Â Create a memorable Twitter handle and name
- Â Create a professional-looking profile background image
My Twitter profile isn’t perfect, but it seems to be doing at least part of the trick and that is okay.
Â
Some More Examples of Profiles:
Let’s go through the steps of how you can optimize a good Twitter Profile
1. Profile Banner
Your profile banner should tell who you are, what you are good at and incorporate accomplishments (if you have any)
(Like Millennia Money Women did, “Featured on Forbes).
If you don’t have it, just keep it simple and clean, don’t spend more time designing this, or you don’t have to find a professional designer to design your banners.
Go to Canva, you will find pre-designed Twitter Banners, use them after some iterations.
2. Twitter Handle
For me it is @thegoldsuite, it is better if you can put your name.
But avoid creating handles like this: @swift6786 or @mygif40027
3. Twitter Name
For me it is Sharyph
It is better if you can put your name, it is okay to add emoji if you want, but it has to be related to your brand
4. Your Bio
Here is Joey’s Profile Bio as an example.
In your Bio, you should answer these three questions:
- Who are you
- What you do
- What are you expecting from me.
5. Links
This is very important.
If you have a product or a newsletter you can put your link here.
Here is a small Hack you can use:
You can insert more than one link.
Pro tip:
Twitter has a spot for your “location” on your profile. Instead of sharing my location, I decided to add my lead magnet. (as you can see in the picture below)
2- Create Content Consistently to Provide Value
This is the step people fail.
Now you know what is your niche, or the main area you want to focus on when you are creating content.
This step is hard because you need to be consistent and disciplined.
How to Create Engaging Content
First, don’t worry if your engagement is low.
You are just starting, don’t expect to go viral.
In fact, you don’t need to go viral.
You are just learning.
Part 2. How to Create More Engaging Content
1 Understand Copywriting
I know this is big, but I want your foundation to be strong.
Copywriting is important because that is the base of creating engaging and converting content.
Not sure where to begin? Try Google, YouTube, or a book on how to write a copy.
People who write the best copies, don’t just make it up as they go along. They have read and worked on it.
2. How to get more engagement and Build Authority.
To increase your engagement and grow your account with authority, you should focus on writing more authority type of content.
Examples:
Before going to examples I want you to read this – How to Write High-Engaging Threads.
Here are some high engaging tweets/thread hooks, these examples are taken from Tweet Hunter Newsletter
Example 1:
This lesson costs me X, but you’re getting it for free:
Example 2:
How to *achieve results faster, or a desired outcome…*
Example 3:
I (or someone) achieved X with Y strategy. Here it is:
Example 4:
How to take advantage of something before it’s too late:
Example 5:
Curate the Best Threads and present it:
3. Plan Your Content
You may know now; this is a game of consistency.
So, to be consistent, you need to plan your content.
The advantages are:
- You will know where you are going (the big picture)
- You can easily refer to your previous works, which will give more engagement
- You will know what you should write next.
I plan my content for the week, sometimes for the month.
I do it by using Notion (Duplicate it if you like)
4- Make Good Connections
When you move forward you will know where you are going and you will know who are big players in the field are.
Try to make connections and engage their content by commenting and quoting their tweets, and ask questions in DM (if they allow, most of them do).
Once you start to get a decent amount of engagement, reach out to relevant people and get to know them.
Get to know them as you would a real-life friend, ask them questions, and try to solve a problem or a hating task of them (free is better to build a good connection)
5. Don’t wait to Build a Newsletter
There are various other platforms you can use.
My Favorite is ConvertKit
The first step or the approach I took was
- I create a Lead Magnet.
- Build a Landing Page
- I promote them if any tweet/thread get a certain amount of likes.
Read this:Â How I grow my Email List
This is the end of this part.
Part 3: How to Monetize Your Audience
Now, you know what you need to do to build an audience, and how to create content.
The next step is how you can get paid for doing all this.
In this part, you are going to learn it.
There are various ways you can monetize your audience.
Ways to Monetize your Audience:
- Become an Affiliate Marketer
- Become a Ghostwriter
- Sell your own Product/Service
- Building an Email List
Let’s look at them one by one.
1- Becoming an Affiliate Marketer
Becoming an affiliate marketer is one of the easiest and fastest ways to make money on Twitter.
Before moving forward, what is affiliate marketing?
Affiliate marketing is you earn a commission every time you promote and sell a product/service.
Ways to promote and earn affiliate commissions.
- You bought a product (this maybe a course, service, or e-book)
- You find it useful for your audience and you want to promote it.
- You ask for an affiliate link (if available) from the creator
- Once you get the affiliate link, you use the link and sell the product.
- If someone buys using your link, you will get a commission. (Some product gives you more than 20% of the total price as commissions)
Note:Â Before promoting you should ask yourself:
- Does it deliver what it promised?
- Is it useful for my audience?
You should not spam your audience with affiliate links.
Most creators send affiliate links because they want more sales and to promote it. But if you find the product doesn’t give enough value, and it doesn’t resonate with your audience you should avoid promoting it.
Note:Â If you are promoting affiliate products without valuable content from you, you will most likely lose your audience.
Even if you don’t have a thousand followers, you can start selling affiliate products right away. However, you will have more success if you build an audience or create an email list first, and then promote your affiliate products in your newsletter/emails.
2- Become a Ghostwriter
Ghostwriter is someone who writes tweets/content for you.
If you want to become a ghostwriter, first you should prove you are worth hiring.
To prove it, you can grow your account to a certain amount of followers, or you can help someone for free to grow his/her account and then use it as a case study to promote your service.
Today this is a trending market. Not only on Twitter but on LinkedIn and on Blogging space as well.
3- Sell Your Own Products/Services
Selling your own products and services is, in my opinion, the best way to make money on Twitter.
But to reach there you should have a skill/solution. If you have a solution, or if you can produce a solution for a problem, you can make a fortune. Now you just have to be good a promoting it.
The best thing is, you can keep all the profits since the product is a digital product and duplication doesn’t require any expense.
It’s an incredible feeling to profit from something you built.
There are many platforms to sell your product. Here is a small list:
- Gumroad
- Podia
- Etsy
How you can host a Digital Product on Gumroad
- Create a product (output can be in a digital form like PDF, Video, or Voice)
- Host / Publish it
In Gumroad, you can also open for pre-order
Once you publish your product you will get a unique link to the product, and then you can start promoting it.
Also, you can provide affiliate links to the buyers if needed using Gumroad.
4- Building an Email List
An email list is one of the most valuable assets you can create as an online creator.
I suggest to start building your email list from day 01. Once you grow it to a certain amount, it is easy to sell your products/services. Also, you can sell ad slots to other creators as sponsored content.
Reasons Why You Should Build an Email List:
- Emails are like talking to one person.
- It is easy to build strong relationships
- In Emails, you can share more personal stories of you, which will help to build a potential customer base.
- Everybody is using email
- The audience is yours, not on some other platform.
In my emails/newsletters, I share what I do, my thoughts about how I am doing certain projects, the real progress of projects, and the outcome of it.
You can literally see everything I do in my digital space and you can learn a lot from those lessons.
If you are not a subscriber it is time for you to subscribe.
